The Children's Room
Our Children's Librarians have years of experience working with youngsters and the books they love. Weekly Storytimes and all other programs and activities are thoughtfully designed to encourage, in children of all ages, curiousity, learning, social engagement and a love of books and reading.
Our regular programs include:
Weekly Story times for toddlers and for Preschool-Kindergarten. Nancy and Carolyn pick the best stories and come up with fun songs, dance, and crafts. Sometimes held outdoors for extra fun!
Monthly Baby Time with Carolyn an interactive story time for 0 through 24 months designed to stimulate hand-eye coordination, awareness, verbalization, listening skills and it is just plain fun. Also a great opportunity for young parents to meet one another.
Meet our latest Teacher Librarian - Jill Farrell. Ms. Farrell has worked in the school district for 28 years and has helped instill a love of reading in countless students. Miss Farrell teaches students from K-5 so has a good grasp of what kids like to read!
Stop by with the kids to see some of her favorite books!
Thanks to Danville Elementary School for collaborating with us on this project!
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is an ongoing program for children 0-5. This a free national program is designed to get children ready to learn to read when they begin school. Readers earn milestone stickers and parade around the library when they reach 1,000!
Our latest to reach the milestone is Kaiana, 4, who completedd 1,000 books on 6/17/25. She received a congratulatory parade around the library and a crown which she personalized herself!
Way to go Kaiana!!
KID LIBRARIAN PROGRAM
Meet our newest Kid Librarian - Sophianna, 10. Sophianna is a fifth grader at Danville Elementary and looking forward to middle school!
She loves survival and adventure stories and reads all the time - even on the bus!
If your 8-to-12-year-old loves to read, we are taking "job applications" for Kid Librarian! The chosen children will get to pick a theme (or their favorite books) to make a fun book display in the children's room. All books must be from the Juvenile Fiction or Juvenile Non-fiction collections.
Bring your readers in to check out Sophianna's display and apply to do their own. If you have already applied please be patient as we have had lots of interest!
